Macon police said they arrested 39-year-old Trenton Harris on multiple charges after he led them on a chase at about 10:53 a.m. Wednesday on Ridgeland Avenue.
An officer was on the scene for another call when he noticed Harris driving slowly while attempting to put on his seat belt, according to a Macon police news release.
The officer also noticed a child not properly restrained in a child safety seat.
The officer asked Harris to put the car in park and exit the vehicle. But Harris sped off, and a chase ensued.
It ended in the 3200 block of Napier Avenue when the suspect got out of the car and ran.
Officers caught Harris and had to use a Taser on him because he was uncooperative, the news release stated.
Officers also found drugs on him.
Harris was booked into the Bibb County jail and charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute, marijuana with intent to distribute, eluding police, child cruelty, reckless driving, child restraint violation, seat belt violation and an outstanding warrant in Muscogee County.
The Division of Family and Children Services was notified about the child.
