This year is a season of transition for the Panthers. They have a new head coach in Trent Miles, and they will be playing in a new conference (Sun Belt) as they move up to a new division (FBS):

Aug. 30 Samford: Miles doesn't have to wait long for his first win as a head coach. ... Georgia State 17, Samford 7.

Sept. 7 Chattanooga: The Panthers schedule smartly before getting into a really tough part of their schedule. ... Georgia State 30, Chattanooga 14.

Sept. 14 at West Virginia: Things get a lot more difficult for the Panthers, but at least there's a good paycheck for playing this game. ... West Virginia 45, Georgia State 7.

Sept. 21 Jacksonville State: The Panthers return home for another nice win out of conference against a team they should beat. ... Georgia State 27, Jacksonville State 10.

Oct. 5 at Alabama: Another paycheck game for the Panthers and another lopsided loss. ... Alabama 42, Georgia State 6.

Oct. 12 Troy: The Panthers open Sun Belt play with a difficult test against the conference's most consistently strong program. ... Troy 34, Georgia State 14.

Oct. 19 at Texas State: Georgia State gets its first conference win against another first-year Sun Belt program. ... Georgia State 26, Texas State 20.

Oct. 26 at Louisiana-Monroe: The Warhawks had a breakthrough year in 2012 and appear headed for bigger things in the next few years. ... Louisiana-Monroe 33, Georgia State 17.

Nov. 2 Western Kentucky: Bobby Petrino takes over a Hilltoppers program that has won seven games each of the past two seasons. Can he take Western Kentucky to the next level? ... Western Kentucky 30, Georgia State 13.

Nov. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette: The Ragin' Cajuns have gone 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the Sun Belt the past two years with a bowl win after each season. ... Louisiana-Lafayette 28, Georgia State 7.

Nov. 23 at Arkansas State: The Red Wolves have won 10 games in each of the past two seasons and had their head coach move on after both of those seasons. ... Arkansas State 37, Georgia State 17.

Nov. 30 South Alabama: Like the Panthers, the Jaguars have a young program, so that should make for an interesting season finale and a chance for the Panthers to go out with a win. ... Georgia State 23, South Alabama 17.
