Forsyth Road was blocked for two and a half hours after a towering oak crashed down in front of Howard Community Club early Tuesday morning in Bibb County.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident with injuries about 4:45 a.m. and found the tree stretched across the road near the Bass Road intersection.

Octavia Greene, of Gray, the driver of the vehicle that hit the tree, was taken away by ambulance and was in stable condition Tuesday morning at The Medical Center of Central Georiga, said Lt. Sean DeFoe, public affairs officer for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies used patrol cars with flashing lights to guard the tree and keep other vehicles from crashing into it in the dark until it could be cut up and removed.

A Georgia Department of Transportation crew with a chain saw and heavy equipment removed the tree, which was blocking both lanes before Ga. 19 fully reopened about 7:15 a.m.
