A Macon police bike officer found a robbery suspect hiding behind a trash bin in downtown Macon early Sunday morning.

Joseph Jermaine Tanner, 35, of Mumford Road, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. Sunday and charged with robbery by sudden snatching after a purse was taken from the back of a bar stool at Fowl Play at 580 Cherry St., according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.

Officers warn downtown patrons to keep their belonging in their sight and secure.

“Unfortunately, there are criminals who take advantage of trusting or unsuspecting people,” interim Macon Police Chief Mike Carswell said in the release.
