Charges pending against two in hit-and-run death of Gordon State student

July 3, 2013

Charges are pending against a Barnesville woman and her ex-boyfriend in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Gordon State College student last weekend.

Authorities on Tuesday arrested Bobbie Jo Sumner, 39, according to a Georgia State Patrol news release. After questioning Sumner, investigators arrested Robert King of Griffin, her former boyfriend, the release stated.

The release doesn’t specify the charges against either suspect, just that they were related to the hit-and-run death of 20-year-old Alexandra Noel Desir.

Desir was on her way to work at the Barnesville Huddle House about midnight Saturday when she was struck by a vehicle.

Desir, of Locust Grove, was walking along Rose Avenue when she was hit.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. A passerby called 911.

Sumner’s 2004 Saturn Vue, with damage to his front end, was found at King’s residence Tuesday.
