An ATM customer was hit in the head with a gun and knocked to the ground during an armed robbery Monday afternoon.

At about 1:40 p.m., the victim was at State Bank at 3945 Pio Nono Ave. when an armed man approached and demanded money, according to a news release from the Macon Police Department.

The robber grabbed the victim’s wallet and ran.

Officers swarmed the Jefferson Hills neighborhood within minutes of the incident and captured 18-year-old Juares Edip Carransa after a brief foot chase near Tyler Drive, the release stated.

Maj. Charles Stone praised the Precinct 2 officers for their quick thinking and teamwork.

“It’s impressive to see how these officers worked cooperatively to make a swift arrest,” Stone said in the release.
