Fire destroys home near Fort Valley

FORT VALLEY -- A home near Fort Valley was destroyed in a fire Sunday night, the fire chief says,

Jeff Doles, who is also the emergency management agency director, said the fire at the intersection of West Valley Drive and Beverly Road near the Ga. 49 Connector remains under investigation.

No one was at home when firefighters were dispatched at 10 p.m. to the single-story residence at 337 West Valley Drive, Doles said.

In all, 26 county firefighters battled the blaze -- bringing the fire under control about midnight, he said. Five fire trucks were utilized in battling the blaze, he said.

No one was injured fighting the fire, Doles said.
