As America prepares for Independence Day, Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare hopes to free caged animals at the shelter.
Saturday, and Monday through Wednesday, the shelter is waiving the $80 adoption fee for cats and dogs, said director Sarah Tenon.
We really want to reduce the number of animals in the shelter before the long weekend, Tenon said.
Those adopting animals will only be responsible for a $50 fee that will be refunded once the animal is spayed or neutered, she said.
The shelter at 1010 Eleventh St. will be open from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday to Wednesday.
The shelter is normally closed on Monday but will be open because of the holiday closings on Thursday and Friday.
