A 37-year-old Macon man was charged with kidnapping Monday afternoon after allegedly jumping into a woman’s car on Thomaston Road near Interstate 475.

DeAngelos Sherad Dennis was arrested at the Motel 6 on Harrison Road, where he had been banned from the property for panhandling, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told investigators Dennis told the female driver he needed fuel for his tractor trailer, but said he forgot his gas card when they arrived at the gas station shortly after 2 p.m.

He allegedly told the woman to drive to the motel, where she went in and asked the clerk for help.

Dennis followed her into the office, started arguing with the clerk and the victim ran out of the building and drove away in her car, the release stated.

Deputies urge motorists to keep their car doors locked with windows rolled up, and watch for people walking up to their vehicles.

Leaving enough space between vehicles at a light or intersection, will allow you to make a quick getaway, the release stated.
