Macon youth team wins national championship

The 9U FCA Sluggers travel baseball team from Macon won the AAU Grand national championship by beating the Central Florida Wolverines 9-2 in Saturday’s championship game at ESPN Wide World Of Sports in Orlando. 

The Sluggers finished the tournament with a 7-2 record. In bracket play, the Sluggers outscored their opponents 32-6. The Sluggers are 52-13 this season with six tournament titles and four runner-up finishes. 

The team is made up of Jack Ham, Lawson Cole, Zane Johnso, Carson Bryant, Trent Ringer, Micah Takac, Cooper Erikson, Logan Merritt, Cooper Baskette, Hunter Hartzog and Cameron Thrift. Denny Bryant is the manager, with coaches Jeff Takac, Mike Hartzog and Chris Merritt.
