16-year-old girl dies in ATV crash in Houston County

Staff reportJune 23, 2013

A 16-year-old girl is dead after an ATV crash in Houston County, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office sent late Saturday night.

At about 3:40 p.m. Friday, an all terrain vehicle driven by Joshua Ryals, 17, of Warner Robins, overturned as Ryals attempted to turn left onto Minick Street from North Davis Drive, the release states. The 2006 China-Joyner Dune Buggy ejected Ryals and passenger Theresa Bridges, 16, of Warner Robins. Neither was wearing proper restraints, the release states.

Ryals was seriously injured, and Bridges sustained life threatening injuries, the release states. Bridges died Friday evening at the hospital, Houston County sherrif’s Cpl. Sean Alexander said.

Investigation revealed that Ryals was traveling too fast for the turn and lost control. He faces charges upon his release from the hospital, Alexander said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor, according to the release.

The incident is still under investigation.
