WARNER ROBINS -- The West All-Star team from Warner Robins American Little League fought its way to a 14-12 win over Athens Little League on Sunday to win the inaugural 7-8 Rookie state title.

Trailing 4-0 after the first inning, Warner Robins chipped away in each inning.

“I told them we just had to keep winning innings,” manager Jeremy Avery said.

Andrew Dunford led the way, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, while Cooper Avery was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI and Jake Canterbury went 3-for-3 with one RBI.

The championship game was held on the Little League Southeastern Complex field, the first time a tournament other than the 11-12 Southeastern Regionals has been played there.

“I just feel awesome,” Dunford said.
