A Macon man died in a fire on Mafiel Drive on Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley identified the victim as Brandon Johnson, 19, who lived in the home. Miley said he was pronounced dead at 2:07 p.m. at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Battalion Chief Donnie Mercer said the fire started at about 1 p.m. at 2325 Mafiel.
A neighbor tried to pull Johnson from the fire but suffered smoke inhalation. The neighbor was taken to the Medical Center for treatment but Mercer said he appeared to be OK.
Firefighters pulled Johnson from the blaze and Mercer said the death appeared to be from smoke inhalation. He said the fire is believed to be accidental but the exact cause has not been determined. He said the home was heavily damaged.
Two other people were in the home when the fire started but got out. Mercer said it took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
Macon police had the road blocked and access to the scene wasnt allowed for part of the afternoon.
