PERRY -- Councilman Joe Posey intends to seek a second term in the November elections.

“I feel our city is moving in the right direction,” he said.

Posey, 63, has held the District 2, Post 1 seat for the past four years. He said he wants to continue “to try to make Perry the jewel of Georgia” through economic development.

“We’ve come a long way, in bringing on an economic development coordinator (and) working towards plans for downtown,” Posey said.

Qualifying for the November race begins in August.

Posey is a retired educator of 36 years, first as a teacher and then a consultant.

He said the city has made great strides in the past few years, but there’s more to be done to try to land big industrial companies that would bolster the tax digest.
