WARNER ROBINS -- The West All-Star team from Warner Robins American Little League advanced to the inaugural 7-8 player pitch state tournament as the Southern Sectional champions with an 8-2 victory Wednesday over Columbus Northern.

Colby Fowler threw 52 pitches and had six strikeouts for Warner Robins, and Jake Canterbury had two strikeouts in 25 pitches.

Manager Jeremy Avery said he was proud of the way his team responded throughout the tournament.

“They showed they’ve grown up over the last week,” he said.

The game was 3-1 going into the final inning when singles by Colin Welford and Fowler each produced a run, Nik Buckner hit a sacrifice to drive home another, and Columbus walked in two runs in a bases-loaded, two-out situation.

The leading hitters for the West were Buckner, who was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI, and Cooper Avery, who was 1-for-4 with three walks and two RBI.

WRALL will play against the sectionals from the Northeast and Northwest in a modified round-robin tournament Saturday. Game times are 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“Now the goal is to play over there,” Avery said, pointing to the Little League Southeastern Regional field, where the state championship game will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
