Cupcakes have become so popular that there are websites devoted to the proper way to eat a cupcake. If you are still trying to eat them with a big messy bite, you’re doing it wrong.

You are supposed to pull the top half off and put the bottom half on top. Now you have a cupcake sandwich that keeps the icing off your face -- unless you like it that way, of course.

Blissful Cupcakes, across from the Houston County Galleria, has little to distract you from your cupcake selection aside from two tables, four chairs and a basket of bottled water. The two refrigerated cases have 12 types of cupcakes featured each day, so you can pick one of each to make your dozen.

The day we came, the flavors were red velvet, vanilla butter cream, chocolate butter cream, caramel pecan, caramel macchiato, lemon drop, strawberry lemonade, peanut butter cup, champagne celebration, key lime, banana pudding and sun kissed.

Everybody wanted more than their share of the peanut butter cup. It was well-presented, with a cute little mini peanut butter cup tucked into the copious amount of icing. None of the cupcakes here are very large, but the presentation of some of the flavors, such as this one, makes it seem bigger than the cake really is.

The key lime also was very popular with our testers. They put a precious little gummy lime on top of a pile of icing, making it very appealing to the eye. Red velvet was another favorite, with the lemon drop not far behind.

We really wanted to like the banana pudding cupcake because of its novelty and appearance, but something about the banana flavor wasn’t quite right. It was attractively topped with a mini vanilla wafer, but I’m not convinced the banana flavor wasn’t imitation.

The champagne celebration had a faint champagne flavor and would be a very pretty choice for a modern bridal shower or wedding. Most children would enjoy the two butter cream flavors and these could be customized easily for a birthday party.

Overall, I would recommend that they branch out a little bit and make the entrance more welcoming as a sit-down area. They feature cake pops on their Facebook page and the refrigerated displays would look more appealing if they held cake pops as well.

Beverages other than water would make you feel more like staying for a while. Even though most of their business is not going to come from dine-in customers, walk-in customers would buy more if there are other customers already sitting there.

Cupcakes can be a great alternative to the usual cakes and cookies. They make people smile and they’re great for kids because they don’t have to share. You can take them anywhere and you don’t need any utensils for cutting or eating. Just make sure to have plenty of napkins and enjoy.
