Bibb County pool schedule

The Bibb County Parks & Recreation Department has extended the hours of the county’s three open pools to accommodate members of the community whose neighborhood pools are closed. The county also is offering free swim classes to county youths with a maximum of 16 students per class on a first-come basis. It’s looking for volunteers to help teach swimming lessons. Schedules:

• Booker T. Washington pool: Open to the general public Tuesday through Friday from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free youth swim lessons offered from 9 a.m-9:45 a.m. and from noon-12:45 p.m. The pool also hosts different camps from 10 a.m.-noon Monday, Thursday and Friday, and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

• East Macon pool: Open to the general public Tuesday through Friday from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free youth swim lessons from 9 a.m.-9:45 a.m. Seniors-only session every Thursday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; cost is $1/person. The pool also hosts camps Monday-Wednesday from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

• Memorial Park pool: Open to the general public Tuesday through Friday from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free youth swim lessons offered from 9 a.m-9:45 a.m. and from noon-12:45 p.m. The pool hosts a camp Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

The county also is offering bus transportation for high school-aged youth and younger to the pools every Tuesday and Friday (except for July 5).

The departure times and places are:

• 12:15 p.m.: Bloomfield Community Center, 4115 Lions Place.

• 12:30 p.m.: Frank Johnson Center, 2227 Mercer University Drive.

• 12:45 p.m.: Freedom Park Center, 3301 Roff Ave.

The buses will arrive at the Booker T. Washington pool, 391 Monroe St., at 1 p.m. and depart at 4 p.m. Bus riders must sign in to ride the bus and sign out when they leave the pool. The cost is $1 to enter the pool. Anyone 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
