A man who was hit by a car in Milledgeville early Saturday is one of seven people killed on Georgia roads during the Memorial Day weekend.

Steven Mole, 48, was walking on U.S. 441, also known as Ga. 24 and north Columbia Street, when he was hit by a vehicle in front of the Ruby Tuesday’s near Robertson Mill Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver was sober, on his way to work at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday, but investigators suspect Mole might have been under the influence of alcohol, according to the trooper’s report.

GSP is investigating six of the state’s seven fatalities between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Monday.

During the holiday weekend, troopers reported 258 injuries in the 490 crashes they investigated.

Last year, the GSP investigated six of the state’s 16 traffic fatalities and troopers reported 278 injuries in the 326 accidents handled by troopers.
