Bibb fire station could open this summer

Bibb County’s newest fire station could open as early as late June.

Construction started in June 2012 on fire station No. 109, located on New Forsyth Road between Bass Road and Wesleyan Drive.

Although the building is complete, soil must be compacted for the driveway. Then concrete must be poured and have time to cure, said Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins.

The station is one of three new stations to be paid for with proceeds from a special purpose local option sales tax initiative that voters approved in November 2011.
