Id like to thank the wonderful people at Middle Georgia Association of Realtors for sponsoring the Bunko party last week. It was absolutely incredible.
Miss Sandy Davis, Miss Janet Goodman and the entire association committee did a fabulous job organizing, decorating and hosting. Those folks really know how to throw a rocking party, and it was all to benefit the animals in our area. What a fantastic group of people committed to making our community great.
Id like to wish a very happy Mothers Day to all the awesome moms out there. I love Mothers Day weekend. Its the time we can spend focusing on the person who means so much to us. If your mother is close by, go ahead right now and give her a hug.
This is a very special holiday for me because I get to spend the entire weekend letting my wonderful mother, Tracie VanDeWalker, know how much I love her.
After all, if it were not for her and my dad Van, I would definitely not be here today. They plucked me from deaths door and brought me back to life. And what a magnificent life its been.
So I will make this weekend perfect for my mom. Ill be on my very best behavior. Ill give her lots of sugar and will plop my 80-pound body in her lap so shell know how much I adore her.
But this weekend also makes me think of different types of moms. Because this is the season when so many puppies and kittens are born, I think of canine and feline moms who may have delivered unwanted litters because they were not spayed.
Although there is nothing cuter than a fuzzy, warm puppy or kitten, have you ever stopped to think what happens to them when they grow up or even IF they grow up? Will they get sick? Will they have enough food? Will they have homes? Will they avoid traffic and the dangers of the streets?
Unfortunately, in our area there is a surplus of dogs and cats. Have you thought about how many times you see homeless, starving animals on the streets? Each stray you see was once a cute, warm and fuzzy baby. But unwanted animals suffer the reality of how harsh life can be.
The solution to the animal overpopulation problem is not mysterious and yet to be discovered. We know how to stop the births. We just need to do it.
Why not celebrate Mothers Day in a creative way this year by spaying or neutering your pet? If you dont have a pet of your own, give a gift certificate for the surgery to someone who does. Youll be glad you did. Happy Mothers Day!
