Boyfriend says Jones County woman’s death was accidental

Staff reportMay 7, 2013

A 22-year-old Jones County woman was shot and killed Monday night, and authorities are checking to see if the shooting was accidental or not.

Brittany Grizzle was found shot to death about 8:40 p.m. Monday at a home in the 3600 block of Joycliff Road, said Jones County sheriff’s Capt. Earl Humphries.

Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Waylon Goodson, told authorities the shooting -- with a .357 revolver -- was accidental.

Goodson was questioned after the shooting and gave an account of what happened. No charges have been filed against him, Humphries said.

“We’re still looking into the circumstances” of the shooting death, he said. “We are confident he is the one who did the shooting.”

Forensic exams will help authorities better determine exactly what happened.

“Then we’ll make a determination” on whether to file charges, Humphries said.
