Battle of Byron rescheduled for August

BYRON - The Battle of Byron surrendered to the rain Saturday.

Although the annual festival’s website said it would go on rain or shine, the weather forecast was so bleak Saturday that vendors were given the option to not come, said event chair Karla Chidester. Many of them didn’t, and the decision was made to reschedule it for Aug. 10.

The Battle of Byron began in 1979 and after a hiatus in the 1980s, it has been held every year since 1991. Chidester said this is the first time it has been rained out.

The event, which raises money for local charities, features a series of quirky competitions such as mud volleyball and a high-heel race.
