AC Pup is barking for Bunko

April 26, 2013

Do you Bunko? Or are you like me and aren’t very familiar with what it is? At first I thought it was something I wasn’t supposed to do, especially in the house. But later I learned it’s a fun game you play with dice.

I’m sure I can learn it by this Thursday evening because that’s when the Middle Georgia Association of Realtors goes to the dogs -- and cats. They are sponsoring Play for Paws Bunko Party at the beautiful Blacksmith Shop located at 665 Poplar St. in Macon. This event will benefit my nonprofit animal welfare group, Central Georgia CARES, and I will be there!

Middle Georgia Association of Realtors is a wonderful nonprofit trade organization that has been representing Realtors and associates of the real estate industry since way back in 1920. So this is an older, well-established group of terrific community-minded professionals. And they have really big hearts.

Each year they choose a charity to help. Then they put tons of work into planning a fabulous fundraising event, investing time, money and energy to make it successful. And on the night of the event, they serve as the most gracious hosts and hostesses you could ever imagine. They know how to put the fun in fundraising!

What a dream for my group, CARES, that the association chose us as its charity to support. We are delighted that they have such tender hearts for animals and are devoting the annual event to helping them this year.

As you probably know by now, in addition to doing a zillion other things like raising awareness about Homeless Pet Clubs, promoting spay and neuter, reuniting lost pets with their families and encouraging humane education, CARES also helps local rescue groups as much as we can. We help them with food, supplies and medical care of the numerous orphaned pets they work so hard to save.

When you’re in the nonprofit world of animal welfare and rescue, there is never any shortage of demand for our services. There is a seemingly endless supply of homeless, lost, hurt or hungry pets that need help. But resources typically limit the amount of assistance that can be offered.

That’s why it’s so refreshing that kind, thoughtful people like the folks with Middle Georgia Association of Realtors are doing what they can to help the animals in need on Thursday. You can also help the animals by purchasing your $20 tickets and enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, beverages and fun by playing Bunko on Thursday at The Blacksmith Shop. Doors open at 6 p.m. and play begins at 7.

Just call the office on Monday at (478) 471-7336 to get your tickets. I’ll be there giving out sugar, especially to the sweet people with Middle Georgia Association of Realtors.
