No violations found so far in school bus death, police say

From staff reportsApril 26, 2013

A Macon police investigation of the school bus accident Monday in which a 5-year-old child was killed has found no violations to date.

The investigation isn’t complete, however, the department noted in a statement Friday.

Ta’Miya Watson was killed Monday near her home in south Macon as she was walking home from Barden Elementary School. The school bus struck her as she crossed Virginia Drive near her Bloomfield Drive home. She died several hours later at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The bus driver, Elaine Clowers, has “cooperated fully” with police during the investigation, as has the Bibb County school system, police said.

The department asks that anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Macon police fatality investigator at 478-803-2456 or 478-751-7500.

Friday afternoon, Barden Elementary students and employees will pay tribute to the kindergartner. They have been encouraged to wear pink shirts, as well as colorful socks and hair bows. Also, a candlelight memorial is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at 5487 Virginia Drive in Macon.

The funeral for Ta’Miya will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Zion Hill Baptist Church, located at 2656 Napier Ave. The church will open at noon for Barden Elementary students and staff members.
