On the set of 'Need for Speed'

April 24, 2013

Though police were out in force on Hardeman Avenue in Macon Wednesday morning, they weren't out to stop speeders. Instead, they were there to help a few lay down some rubber on the set of Need for Speed on the first day of filming in Macon.

Over and over a late model Ford Mustang mounted on a special camera sled ripped off the Interstate 75 off ramp and into the Fountain Car Wash through a maze of cars bearing New Jersey and New York plates. Inside the car was one of the stars of the movie, Aaron Paul, known to many as Jesse Pinkman on the popular television show Breaking Bad.

As the production shot, reset and shot again, many people peeked onto the set from parking lots and sidewalks adjacent to the set. Kelly Amerson shot photos with her iPhone from a spot about 50 yards away. "I'm from Minnesota, so I don't see nothing like this," Amerson said by way of explaining her fascination, "I'm used to seeing corn and pigs and cows and beans."
