Warner Robins budget season includes public hearing

WARNER ROBINS -- A timeline for the Warner Robins fiscal 2014 budget includes a public hearing, something that stalled the process last year.

In an email to department directors last month, Chief Finance Officer Bill Harte set the public presentation for June 3. The mayor’s proposed budget will be presented to council May 20 and is scheduled for approval June 17.

The budget must be approved by the new fiscal year, which begins July 1.

Last year, the mayor’s office remained mum on details of the budget, which ultimately included a few raises and some new items that raised eyebrows. No public hearings were planned.

Eventually, council members refused to vote on the budget until a public hearing was held. When it was, few residents attended and only two of them spoke.

The mayor has been reviewing department heads’ budget proposals since March 20.
