AUGUST — Michael Weaver will turn 22 on Friday. What better way to celebrate that birthday than by making the cut at the Masters?

Weaver will get a chance to do just that this week at Augusta National Golf Club. He earned his first Masters appearance by finishing as the runner-up last summer in the U.S. Amateur.

“A tee time on Saturday. That's about it,” Weaver said when asked what he wants for his birthday.

He will play with former Masters champion Craig Stadler and former British Open champion Ben Curtis in the first two rounds. They tee off at 11:18 a.m. on Thursday and 8:11 a.m. on Friday.

“I think I will be nervous, but I will hopefully be under control,” Weaver said. “Hit a good tee shot on 1, and then hopefully from there, it will be easy. The course is awesome. It's tough. But if you are hitting it well and you put yourself in some good spots to make some birdies, there are some holes that you can play decent on a little bit.

“I really like the course a lot. I feel like if I play well, hopefully I can post some good scores.”

Weaver said he arrived Saturday and played practice rounds Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Throughout the week he has played with Fuzzy Zoeller, Jason Dufner, Nick Watney, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Robert Garrigus.

He said he also met former Secretary of State and new Augusta National member  Condoleezza Rice.

“I would hope to be low amateur,” Weaver said. “I feel like if I play well, I've got a shot at it. Hopefully get the low amateur, make the cut, have fun on the weekend. That would be awesome.”
