Family ministry offers free car seat checks

From staff reportsApril 4, 2013

Family Advancement Ministries is helping parents make sure they’ve installed their child car seats correctly.

They offered free car seat checks Thursday for those who wanted to make sure that theirs were properly secured.

Technicians with the ministry, geared toward children 6 and younger, were available for checks from 11:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Thursday for those who came to the ministry at 570 High Place, near St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Sister Roberta Treppa, director of the ministry, said their aim is to hold the checks at the same time on the first Thursday of each month.

For those who qualify and go through an application process, the ministry also provides car seats free of charge. Over the past 15 years, the ministry and another one it merged with have given away about 2,000 car seats.

Treppa said the ministry provides updates on many of its activities on Facebook. Search for Family Advancement Ministries to learn more. Parents can also call (478) 745-7165.
