Macon police arrested a man they said robbed SunTrust Bank on Vineville Ave. just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

William Dallas Sanford, 44, was picked up by investigators hours after the robbery at Travel Lodge on Riverside Drive, according to a police news release.

He’s accused of walking into the bank and handing the teller a note demanding money.

Soon after the robbery, police released a surveillance photo of a man wearing a dark button-down collar shirt, tan sports jacket with a baseball cap. The photo generated calls and tips that netted the suspect’s name, the news release stated.

Sanford is known in the Macon area and has been arrested previously, according to the news release.
