The Department of Defense announced Thursday that it is delaying sending out furlough notices to civilian employees.

According to a news release, the notices will be delayed for about two weeks to give the department time to analyze the impact of a continuing resolution pending in Congress. No decisions have been made on whether the continuing resolution will result in fewer furlough days. The legislation would fund the government through September.

Currently the department plans to furlough nearly all civilian employees for 22 days through the remaining fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.

“We believe the delay is a responsible step to take in order to assure our civilian employees that we do not take lightly the prospect of furloughs and the resulting decrease in employee pay,” Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said in the release.

Officials now estimate the notices will go out on April 5.

At Robins Air Force Base about 15,000 employees would be furloughed.
