For the first time, poets, essayists, novelists and other artists from Mercer University are coming together Thursday and Friday for the Reunion of Mercer Writers. The event will be on the Macon campus and will feature readings and lectures by alumni writers, including a keynote presentation by Judson Mitcham, a poet, novelist and instructor in Mercers creative writing program. In 2012, Mitcham was named poet laureate of Georgia. This year, he was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame and received the Ferrol A. Sams Jr. Distinguished Writer in Residence recognition, according to a news release.
Mitchams presentation titled Prayers and Weapons will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Presidents Dining Room of the University Center. Events will continue throughout the day Friday in the Newton Chapel and Hardeman Hall. They are free and open to the public.
