Northeast to hold Al Lucas dedication ceremony

Published: March 20, 2013

The Bibb County school system will dedicate the fieldhouse at Northeast High School to the memory of former player Al Lucas at 3 p.m. Thursday at the school located at 1646 Upper River Road.

Lucas, the son of state Sen. David Lucas and Macon City Councilwoman Elaine Lucas, was a graduate of Northeast who played football at Troy State University. He later played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers. In 2005, he died from an injury in a game while playing for the Los Angeles Avengers in the Arena Football League.

The Bibb County school board approved renaming the fieldhouse in Lucas’ honor in January.
