Army Sgt. Michael T. Crockett: Crockett, 27, of Soperton, died July 14, 2003, in Baghdad when his patrol came under a rocket propelled grenade attack. He was assigned to Headquarters Co., 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, Fort Stewart. Crockett's younger brother died in a car wreck in 1996, and his mother believed that may have been what spurred him to join the military because he wanted to get away. He left behind a wife and two sons and was described as a devoted father.
