WARNER ROBINS -- An 18-wheeler caught fire Monday on Ga. 49 near New Faith Baptist Church, shutting down a northbound lane and sparking a small brush fire, officials said.

Peach County E911 Director Sheryl Hobbs said that the truck fire was reported by a passerby at 12:30 p.m.

Peach County fire Capt. Ryan Roberts said the fire was limited to the cab of the truck. The truck’s driver was not hurt.

The truck, which was carrying a container of concrete and chemicals, was hauled away by a wrecker service, Hobbs said. The container was not damaged or ruptured, Roberts said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, Roberts said.

One of two northbound lanes of down Ga. 49 near mile marker 8 between Byron and Fort Valley was closed for about 90 minutes because of the fire.
