UPDATE: Balloon Meister expects winds to die down for glow at Tunes and Balloons

Published: March 16, 2013

With winds gusting to 25 mph in Macon, Cherry Blossom Festival are continuing to assess weather conditions for tonight's Tunes and Balloons at Middle Georgia State College.

"We have a Balloon Meister and our own little weather station out here," said Lydia Moss, who serves as festival marketing director. "We anticipate the winds to die down just enough about dusk, so we feel pretty certain we'll be able to glow. The tethered rides are a little iffy."

The winds are expected to be brisk after gates open at 4 p.m., so guests might not be able to ascend above the crowd on the hill of the campus off Interstate 475 in west Bibb County.

Inflatable rides for the children might also have to come down, if the winds are too brisk.

Bands are scheduled to perform throughout the evening as families spread out chairs and blankets for picnics on the sloping hill.

Cherry Blossom Festival organizers plan to notify macon.com if there are any changes in plans.
