Houston tweaks pre-k registration process

Due to a low number of students registering for pre-kindergarten, Houston County is tweaking its registration process.

Now, parents can register children for pre-kindergarten at any time through Friday, not just during their assigned week based on the school their children will attend, Linda Horne, assistant superintendent for school operations, said in a news release.

Since registration began Feb. 19, about 500 children have been registered -- officials projected a total of about 1,300, she said.

Pre-kindergarten students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013. Only parents and legal guardians can register children for pre-kindergarten. The central registration office is located at the Bert Rumble Complex at 303 South Davis Drive in Warner Robins. For more information and for a list of required paperwork, visit www.hcbe.net/central-registration.aspx.

All parents registering their children for the 2013-14 school year must complete the registration process. Parents must bring photo identification, their children’s birth certificates, custody papers if applicable, Social Security cards, two proofs of residence, ear, eye and dental screening certificates, immunization certificates, and school records and last report card if transferring from another school. All applicants must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013.
