Two apartments were burned and four others were damaged by smoke just after 11 p.m. Friday at the East Ridge Apartments on Crissy Drive.
Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said the blaze started on the lower level of the complex, located about a mile east of the Wal-Mart on Gray Highway.
The official cause of the fire has not been released.
A resident told authorities that a neighbor knocked on her door and told her to get out because the children set the apartment on fire, according to a Macon police report released Monday.
A portion of Gray Highway was temporarily closed while firefighters battled the blaze.
Information from Telegraph archives was used in this report.
