Macon-Bibb County firefighters battled a blaze at an apartment building Friday night.

No information was available from the fire department, but a resident of the building said no one was injured and two apartments were destroyed.

The fire happened at East Ridge Apartments on Crissey Drive.

Gina Thigpen said she was returning home with her boyfriend at about 10 p.m. when someone told her there was a fire and to call 911, which she did. Her boyfriend then began banging on doors to wake people up.

They were able to return to the apartment at about 3 a.m., she said. A portion of Gray Highway was shut down while firefighters battled the blaze.
