Macon man indicted in fatal baseball bat beating case

Bibb County grand jurors have indicted a Macon man in the November baseball bat beating that killed a Macon woman.

John Valerie Conover, 49, of Mercer Street, is charged with murder, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Conover is accused of striking 46-year-old Alterese Carter, of Atlantic Avenue, with a bat during an argument on Mercer Street on Nov. 30, 2012. She died the following day at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Conover has been held at the Bibb County jail since Dec. 1, according to jail records.
