Crawford magistrate jailed on theft charge

Published: March 4, 2013

Crawford County Magistrate Andrea Peterman was booked into the county jail Monday on allegations of fiduciary theft.

Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said he was notified of possible problems with the magistrate court and possible theft last week.

“Based on the evidence presented to me, I asked the GBI to investigate,” Cooke said Monday.

The GBI obtained arrest warrants for fiduciary theft and violation of oath of office, he said.

Jail records show Peterman was booked about 3:45 p.m. and is being held without bond.

Cooke said a forensic audit is being conducted to determine how much money is missing.
