A naturalized citizen from South Vietnam pleaded guilty Thursday to firebombing Cindy Nails in Hazlehurst, causing a fire that destroyed the nail salon in 2010.
Leon Buu Dam, 48, could face a minimum 15-year prison sentence, according to a U.S. Attorneys Office news release.
Evidence presented in court shows that the salon, located on South Tallahassee Street, caught ablaze just after business hours on Dec. 7, 2010. The fire destroyed the inside of the building and everything inside, according to the release.
Arson investigators found a ball-style trailer hitch, an alarm clock and a bundle of matches wrapped in duct tape, along with evidence of a flammable accelerant inside the building, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
Investigators discovered that Dam had bought a trailer hitch, alarm clock and a quart of kerosene at a nearby Walmart weeks earlier. Surveillance video from nearby businesses shows Dam and his vehicle at the business that night, according to the release.
