An SUV flipped down the 700 block of Gray Highway in a five-vehicle accident Thursday morning.
Two people who were traveling in the white Pontiac Torrent were taken to the hospital after the 8:45 a.m. accident that snarled traffic in both directions.
Sgt. Stephanie Wammock, a medic with the 48th Infantry Brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard, said she was headed to work at the armory when she saw the Torrent tumbling in her direction.
Wammock, who served a tour in Afghanistan, stopped to render aid to the victims.
Im glad I was able to have the experience to help these people when they needed the help, Wammock said.
Jean White, a nurse, also stopped to help the injured.
I was just coming down the road and, all of a sudden, I saw that white (vehicle) come rolling down the road, White said. So I pulled over to the side of the road and came to see if I could be of any help.
White also consoled the distraught driver of a dark green Honda Accord that had a smashed front end.
Sherry Greene, of Jones County, was headed into Macon in his Camaro when traffic approaching North Avenue slowed in front of him.
A black Chevrolet Tahoe was behind him.
I looked back in my rearview mirror. I knew she wasnt going to stop, so she tried to get over, Greene said.
The Tahoe clipped the drivers side of his Camaro, Greene said, but the chain of events was not immediately clear.
The Macon Police Department is investigating the accident.
