WARNER ROBINS -- Those who visit the French Club of Warner Robins and Macons meetup.com website might need a translator. The welcome letter is in French.
Regine Tatem, who is originally from the south part of France near Toulouse, and her husband Lt. Col. Richard Tatem, who works in the plans and programming section of Air Force Reserve Command headquarters at Robins Air Force Base, met in London.
The couple moved to Warner Robins from New Mexico in October.
They created a French Club when they were in New Mexico and wanted to continue to meet people interested in the French culture as well as make new friends when they moved here.
She and I were looking for ways to connect with others in our local community who are interested in French language and culture, Richard Tatem said.
So far, eight people have joined the social club, where members gather and talk about French-related topics in French.
We prefer people genuinely interested in French language and culture, Regine Tatem said.
She said people join for a multitude of reasons. Some want to improve their language skills or learn the history of France.
The couple, who have been married four years, share a love of the French language.
Richard has a masters degree in French and lived in Paris for two years when he studied at the French Political Science Institute and Middlebury Colleges French School campus in Paris.
Regine Tatem studied fashion and worked for some clothing designers before meeting her husband. While working in the fashion industry in London, Regine Tatem started a French club there.
Most of my French friends I met in the club, she said.
Now she is working on a cookbook for Americans inspired by French cooking.
Twice a year, they travel to see Regine Tatems mother, who still lives in France.
The Warner Robins/Macon club is free to join, and the next meeting will be March 9 at Metropolis Grill.
