Volunteer accused of stealing from animal rescue group

A volunteer with local animal rescue group Paws & Adopt has been charged with the theft of nearly $4,800 from the group’s funds.

Erin Beth Roberts, 43, of River Hill Lane, was charged with theft by taking after Paws & Adopt president Sara Roberts, a Bibb County prosecutor, alerted investigators that she conducted an audit of the group’s funds from May to September 2012 and discovered $4,795 missing from the bank account after numerous unauthorized transactions. All of the transactions were handled by Erin Roberts, according to the sheriff’s report.

Sara Roberts and Erin Roberts are not related.

Erin Roberts was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Bibb County jail. She was later released on a $4,050 bond.
