With a fairly small senior class, National Signing Day at Fort Valley State wasnt going to be one of checking fax machines every 15 minutes and working the phones.
And it wasnt.
The Wildcats signed five players during the day, with head coach Donald Pittman expected three more national letters-of-intent throughout the evening or early Thursday.
These are the ones we wanted, Pittman said. We lost some, but these are the ones we wanted. We feel good about it.
Pittman picked up the requisite hometown product in tight end/wideout Renard Williams, a Peach County product who transfers in from Southwest (Miss.) Community College.
The Wildcats picked up three offensive linemen Wednesday, and two of the three he expected to hear from next are both offensive tackles. But that wont be the end of it.
Were going to be getting more, Pittman said. Well probably get about eight more.
Which, with assorted mid-year transfers, will give the Wildcats a fairly full class after all.
Oh yes, he said. Without a doubt.
