Rashaad Townes will forever be known as Howard’s first FCS signee.

The senior linebacker/defensive back signed with perennial FCS contender Appalachian State.

“I worked so hard for it, I wouldn’t be able to be here without the coaches, the players surrounding me,” Townes said.

Townes first visited Boone, N.C. during the summer and felt comfortable on campus.

“I really liked how the coaches treated me,” Townes said.

Townes finished with 121 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five pass breakups and four forced fumbles and earned All-Region 2-AAAA honors.

Townes will be joined by Calhoun’s two-time all-state quarterback Taylor Lamb, who signed with the Mountaineers Wednesday.

Lamb, son of Mercer head coach Bobby Lamb, picked Appalachian State over South Alabama.
