Unit commanders and members of the Macon police command staff gathered around a table Wednesday morning to discuss 2012 and plans for this year.
The meeting is part of the departments annual retreat, which this year is being held in donated space at Mabel White Baptist Church on Bass Road.
Police Chief Mike Burns said Macon saw its lowest-ever crime total in 2012.
I think thats a major accomplishment, he said.
Meeting through Friday, the department will discuss successes and failures from 2012, while also determining what budgetary needs should be considered for the next fiscal year, he said.
Theres been a flurry of talk about officers obtaining Tasers in the weeks since a police officer fatally shot a man outside the Kroger grocery store on Pio Nono Avenue in late December.
The department has placed an order for about 60 Tasers to outfit road supervisors. SWAT team members have carried them for five years.
Burns said it would take $365,000 to outfit the remaining police officers with Tasers and an additional $18,500 for recertification cartridges.
