Another Goodys store is reopening in Middle Georgia -- this time in Macon.
The store is expected to hold its grand opening March 21 in the Market Square shopping center at 1340A Gray Highway. It will join Farmers Home Furniture, Citi Trends, Aarons and Dollar General Market.
The new store will carry an assortment of clothing, accessories and cosmetics for juniors and women, as well as apparel for men and children.
The former Goodys stores in Middle Georgia closed when the former parent company filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Texas-based Stage Stores Inc. bought the business and has been reopening Goodys stores around the country.
In April 2011, a Goodys opened in Perry in the former Peebles location in the Perry Marketplace shopping center. Stage also operates Peebles stores.
The new Goodys store in Macon is going in a vacant 11,700-square-foot space in the shopping center, brand marketing director for Stage Stores Jennifer Grammar said in an e-mail.
The city of Macon fit in the business model of Stage Stores, Grammar said.
While the company is hiring workers, Grammar did not know late Tuesday how many would work in this particular store. Anyone interested in a job may apply at www.goodysonline.com.
When the doors open at 9 a.m., March 21, the first 100 shoppers will receive a free tote bag, the release stated. On March 22, the first 50 customers will receive a mystery gift card valued at $5-$100.
Macon shoppers deserve a hometown store that delivers great fashion brands at great prices. Goodys is that store, Michael Glazer, president and CEO of Stage Stores, said in the release.
The Macon store will be the 36th Goodys store in Georgia. In addition to Goodys and Peebles, Stage Stores also operates Bealls and Palais Royal stores.
