Published: February 1, 2013

A 31-year-old Macon man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years in connection with a 2011 armed robbery and punching a Macon police detective in the face.

Jurors found Shakeno Dontaye Collins guilty of armed robbery, criminal attempt to commit robbery by force, felony obstruction and marijuana possession of marijuana on Thursday, following a three-day trial, said Dorothy Hull, a Bibb County prosecutor.

Collins pushed a female acquaintance on Nov. 12, 2011, at an apartment complex off Rocky Creek Road and tried to take her money. Within 30 minutes of that incident, he used a gun to rob a man leaving Sparks Bar and Grill, 3761 Mercer University Drive, Hull said.

After being arrested, he punched detective David Patterson, according to court records.

Collins previously has been convicted on auto theft, cocaine possession, obstruction and domestic violence charges, Hull said.
