Published: January 30, 2013

Central High School junior Kelton Ellis advanced to the semifinals of the “Jeopardy!” Teen Tournament, correctly responding to the Final Jeopardy answer in the category “Historic Quotes.”

Ellis gave the correct reply of Robert E. Lee, and having bet all of his money, easily outpaced his competitors for the win. The tournament winner earns $75,000.

Ellis trailed at the beginning of the Double Jeopardy round, but came on strong and went into Final Jeopardy in the lead with $12,100, $100 over the second-place contestant.

Ellis will next appear in the semifinals. Fellow midstate high school student William Crouch, 16, a sophomore at Northside High School, competes in his first-round Friday (WMAZ, 7:30 p.m.)
